Blue and White Porcelain – Vice and Virtue

Blue and white Porcelain is one of the most famous Chinese traditional arts and crafts with over a thousand years of history dating back to the Han Dynasty in 25 AD. Among all the porcelain from China, Jingdezhen porcelain is most famous for it’s beauty and quality which is highly regarded and often presented as gifts to nobility and was even some of the first porcelain wares to be exported from China. Even now Jingdezhen is still famous for producing high quality porcelain and is regarded as second to none.

However with the fast paced growth of China’s economy in the past few decades there has been a decline and neglect of traditional arts and crafts. Many skills and techniques passed down from one generation of artisans to the next is slowly fading due to younger generations preferring to pursue more modern career paths. As well as being influenced by different cultures ranging from western pop culture to japanese manga and anime.

Therefore our goal is to combine pop culture influences with the traditional painting techniques of the blue and white porcelain to create something unique that will inspire and remind all people of this wonderful traditional chinese craft. If we successful in this campaign, we will create our workshop and create more pop meet traditional chinese art and craft.
